people.io (the "Site") is a website owned and operated by people.io UK Ltd (“people.io”, “us”, or “we”), and is intended to empower its users with respect to their personal information. people.io is a private limited company incorporated in England and Wales. people.io is a wholly-owned subsidiary of C8 Management Ltd.

Your use of the Site and related applications necessarily involves the collection and processing of personal information relating to you. Users of the Site own personal information relating to them and when a user closes their account on the Site, their personal information will be deleted. This Privacy Policy, along with our Terms of Use http://people.io/en/UK/terms-of-use.html, explains how people.io collects, uses, and processes the personal and other information that you make available to us on the Site, related mobile applications, and other services (collectively, the "Services"). It also describes the choices available to you regarding our use and sharing of your personal information.

You are in control of your personal information on our Services, and we will not share your personal information with a third party unless you tell us to do so or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy. Third-party brands, retailers, and consumer businesses that offer credits to you through the Site will not get access to your personal information unless you provide clear and unambiguous consent, ensuring that you retain control over its use.

To ensure users of the Site are given the most suitable protection for their use of our Services, users may be required to give additional consents that are required under local jurisdictions.

Our Services

The Site is committed to empowering the consumer to take control of when, how, and by whom their personal information is used. The Services aim to ensure that, within the Site environment, you only receive marketing and advertising content that you want to see, on terms that you deem acceptable. It also allows you to share information with third parties, in exchange for payments and rewards that can later be used to purchase digital products, subscriptions and services.

Through the Site, and associated applications, you can contribute a wide variety of information relating to yourself, ranging from personal information, financial information, demographic information, electronic communications, and data from your accounts with social networking sites (collectively, "your data" or “user data”). We collect some of this information directly from you when you register or subsequently interact with the Site or application. You may also contribute information residing on third-party platforms, such as social media platforms and/or financial institutions (each, a “Third-Party Platform”), for the purposes of identification and supplying our Services in a more targeted way.

For purposes of this Privacy Policy, "personal information" refers to any information that identifies you or could be used to identify you in and of itself or when combined with other information in our possession or control. It does not include information that has been de-identified or anonymized, for instance data that has been aggregated with other data, such that it is not possible for us to personally identify you.

We may use your data to target and send you updates from a variety of third parties (such as a branded message, promotion or digital content sent to a subset of users with certain characteristics). In addition, people.io may share aggregated and/or de-identified data with third parties. Aggregated data is information that the Site generates from individualized information but subsequently maintains and uses in a form that combines together information about numerous individuals so that no individual can be identified. Examples include the number of users who live in a certain geographic area or the categories of purchases most frequently made by users with specific demographic combinations. De-identified information is information from which people.io has removed any data that personally identifies you. We may disclose aggregated or de-identified data derived from personal information to third parties. We do this to help improve the quality of our services and will always do so in the best interests of our users. By registering for or using our Services, you consent to the collection, use, and sharing of such aggregated and/or de-identified information as people.io deems appropriate.

Collection of Personal and Other Information

We collect the following personal and other information about you for the purposes of enabling people.io to improve the Site and the Services:

  • Basic user information, such as your name and email address.

  • Unique identifiers associated with your use of the Services, such as your user name, user account number, and password.

  • Online tracking information, as described below under "Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies".

With your express permission, we collect and access the following information from Third-Party Platforms for the use within the C8 marketplace:

  • Additional personal or other information that you agree to provide, including any information that we import from a Third-Party Platform. Such information may include, but is not limited to, data from your accounts with Third-Party Platforms.

  • Basic transaction information. This information will be a summary of your purchases (e.g., what retailers and brands you prefer) so that people.io can better provide you with our Services tailored to your preferences.

  • Information from your registered email account, including information in your email communications. people.io will only look, via automated means, for specific information (e.g., receipts and contacts that also use the Site) to better assist us provide you with the Services. Users own their personal data and when users leave the Site, people.io will delete all of their personal data.

  • Information on the financial transaction history of a user’s payment account(s) made available to it by a Third-Party Platform (Yodlee Inc., or "Yodlee"). C8 will not collect your credit card or payment details for accounts that you choose to associate with your Site account. An external frame, hosted by Yodlee, will be used when connecting the service to this Site, ensuring no payment details are transmitted to, or stored by people.io. Use of Personal and Other Information

We use this information for the following reasons:

  • Administering your account.

  • Verifying you and your account. people.io will use information from Third-Party Platforms to verify you and your details.

  • Providing the services that you request and process transactions on your behalf.

  • Responding to your questions and concerns and provide you with effective customer service.

  • Delivering confirmations, account information, and similar communications about your account.

  • Providing you with payments and rewards from third parties (such as gift cards, digital subscriptions, or advertising) that we believe will be of interest to you. This information will be kept within the C8 marketplace.

  • Your data may be processed for people.io’s marketing purposes carried out by a Third-Party Platform. Any marketing messages, including messages that advertise third-party brands, received by users will come from people.io. people.io will always retain control over any database that contains your information, including any database used for marketing purposes (e.g., to help people.io analyze how many click-throughs certain brands are receiving).

  • Improve our Services. people.io will use third parties to improve the Services and this will require the transfer of some user data (see "Disclosures of Personal Information" below). Such third parties will not get access to the data that people.io collects for use within the C8 marketplace (see “Collection of Personal and Other Information” above).

  • Conduct research and analysis and learn more about our users.

  • Create aggregated and de-identified data that we use for the purposes stated above and share with a variety of third parties (as discussed below)

Cookies & Other Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and related technologies for a variety of purposes, including keeping track of your preferences and profile information. We also use cookies to collect general usage and volume statistical information that we cannot use to identify you. people.io will identify cookies that you bring to the Site from third-party sites. None of the cookies people.io uses will be used for purposes other than running the Site and/or any apps or plug-ins required for the Site.

Cookies are small files that are stored on your computer by your web browser. A cookie allows the Services to recognize whether you have visited before and to store certain information about you and your online activities. If you are concerned about having cookies on your computer, you can set your browser to refuse all cookies or to notify you when a cookie is being set, allowing you to decide whether to accept it. You can also delete cookies from your computer. However, if you choose to block or delete cookies, certain features of the Service may not operate correctly.

Disclosures of Personal Information

With your express permission, you authorize us to use a third-party service provider, Yodlee, to retrieve personal and other information on your behalf from certain Third-Party Platforms. people.io will only ever retrieve from Yodlee summaries of your transactions (e.g., what brands you spend with) so that people.io can better provide you with Services tailored to your preferences and as part of an enhanced experience.

We also may disclose your personal information:

  • As required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, court order, or similar legal process.

  • When we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to establish, protect, or exercise our rights; protect your safety or the safety of others; investigate fraud or other illegal activities; or respond to a government request.

  • If people.io is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of its assets. In that event, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Site about the choices you have with regard to your data.

  • To any other third party with your consent, including when you click on a button or use another mechanism on our Services to initiate the sharing of your personal or other information.

Any personal or other information that is collected through the Services is processed in the European Economic Area for the purposes described above. We may use third-party vendors to provide the Services to you and, as a result, some of your data may be transferred outside of the European Economic Area. We will ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your personal information when it is transferred. The data-protection laws in countries receiving your information may be different from, and less stringent than, those in your country of residence. By using the Services, you expressly consent to such transfer and processing.

Finally, as discussed above, we may provide aggregated and/or de-identified information about our users to third parties. Any aggregated and/or de-identified information provided to third parties would not be used for marketing purposes.

Information about Users Obtained from other Users or Third-Party Platforms

  • If you provide us with personal information about others, or if others give us your personal information, we will use that information only for the specific reason that it was provided to us.

  • people.io will use in-house analytics to create synergies between and spot trends among different users of the Site. This information will not involve any personal data transferring to third-party service providers.

  • You may supply information that enables us to import data from your accounts on Third-Party Platforms. By doing so, you authorize these Third-Party Platform(s) to share certain information about you to enhance your use of our Services.

Interactions with Other Websites and Services

Our Site includes links to other websites whose privacy practices may differ from those of people.io. If you submit personal information to any third-party sites, your information is governed by their privacy statements. We encourage you to carefully read the privacy statement of any website you visit.

Leaving the Site and Opt-out

You may choose to leave the Site at any time by logging in to your account and opting to delete your account from the Edit Profile page. You can also contact us at [email protected]

When you leave the Site, all of your personal data will be deleted from people.io and the Site’s records, unless its longer retention is required by law or to protect people.io’s legal rights. When leaving the site, we will retain an encrypted record of your email address, to help reduce fraud..

Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18 years of age.

Access to Information

The Act gives you the right to access information held about you displayed in an intelligible form. Any access request may be subject to a fee of up to £10 to meet our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you. When such information can be used to personally identify you, it is treated as "personal information" under this Privacy Policy.

Notification of Privacy Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to our information practices. If we make a material change to our Privacy Policy that will retroactively apply to information that we have collected from you, we will notify you at the e-mail address specified in your account (if any) and by means of a notice posted on our Site. We encourage you to periodically review the Privacy Policy posted on our Site for the latest information about our privacy practices. We will treat your continued use of the Services following such notice as your acceptance of the changes.
